My Philosophy
My Story

I'm a birth and postpartum doula with a wealth of experience as a mama of two little ones.  I am working on my doula certification for both birth and postpartum care.  

 

Having delivered two babies with the support of a doula, I have experience with both vaginal and cesarean births, including unmedicated VBAC deliveries.  I have extensive firsthand experience breastfeeding through various obstacles and am very knowledgeable about pumping.

I decided to become a doula after having a doula during my two very different birth experiences.  I believe that a doula can be an invaluable source of information and support.  I am passionate about helping expectant parents find their voice to advocate for themselves and for their babies.  Birth rights are human rights.

As a birth doula, my job is to provide you with informational, emotional, and physical support during labor.  What this means is unique to each individual as we all come to birth from different histories and experiences.  During our prenatal appointments, we will discuss your birth plan, any fears, and different comfort measures for labor.  I'll answer any questions about what to expect in labor and postpartum period.  We'll also discuss caring for your newborn.  The prenatal appointments are a great opportunity to get to know each other more.

 

During birth I provide any support that you or your partner may need and will stay with you for about an hour postpartum or at least until the baby has nursed, if you intend on breastfeeding.  Within the first week home, I will make a postpartum visit to discuss your birth experience, talk about self-care after birth, and any questions you may have about baby care.

If I work with you as a postpartum doula, I can provide a wide range of support.  I can provide nursing support, newborn care advice, light housekeeping, meal preparation, and other postpartum assistance and advice.  Just ask what you need and we can discuss options.
